Women’s EVP Pro Beach Volleyball Back at Vanderbilt Beach This Weekend
EVP National Championships Slated for Marco Island in September
Naples, Fla.(May 22, 2014) –The top women pros from the Extreme Volleyball Professionals (EVP) tour spike it out on Vanderbilt Beach this Saturday at the EVP Island Holiday women’s pro volleyball Naples tour stop. Play begins at 8:00 a.m. and the public is invited to watch the top EVP female athletes dazzle the crowd while they compete for cash prizes and for the title and berth to the EVP National Championship – just announced for September 20 on the beach at Marco Island.
Matches start Saturday morning with semifinals, progressing to the finals at 3:00 p.m. Twelve of the top women’s teams in the country will battle in the women’s pro invitational. This year’s talented field includes the top ranked team for 2014 of Devin VonPingel and Caitlin Haworth. Darota Firek from Poland and Kassia Fernandes from Brazil will also team up to challenge in the pool play to elimination format that will take place all day. Kelly Schumacher of Miami and Raquel Ferreira will make their first appearance in Naples. Schumacher is a WNBA and NCAA champion in basketball and as one of the tallest EVP players at 6’5” she is competing for a position on the USA 2016 Olympic team.
There should be plenty of local fans to cheer on the outstanding local amateur team that won the qualifying match in April, giving them a spot against the pros in this weekend’s EVP Island Holiday matches. Haley Von Harten from Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers and Cali Gutierrez from Gulf Coast High School in Naples will hit the sand and see how they match up against the pros.
"Naples is always a highlight of the tour for our players and staff," Says Ross Balling, Executive Director and Founder of EVP. "We are pleased to return for the Memorial Day event at Vanderbilt Beach and are very excited that the Collier County Sports Tourism team has been able, for the first time, to bring the September season-ending EVP National Championship to the beautiful Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort."
The EVP National Championship features both men and women pros. There will also be competitive opportunities for junior and amateur division volleyball players. Visit EVPTour.com for more details and registration. The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort will offer discounted rates on September 19 and 20 for the national event.
"The EVP tour, now with 20 cities in 13 states, brings invaluable exposure to Naples nationally with television coverage by Beach Sports Network on Comcast Sports Net showcasing the Naples/Marco Island area as a beautiful and luxurious sports destination,” said Chris O’Brien with Collier County’s sports tourism marketing team. “Since our destination is the host of both the EVP Island Holiday event and the EVP National Championships in September, we are also being promoted during each of the 19 other national tour stops.”
