Sugden Regional Park to host the 2015 Pro Watercross Tour World Championships

Event to be held September 19-27, 2015

NAPLES, Fla. (March 24, 2015) --- The 2015 Pro Watercross Tour World Championships will be held at Sugden Regional Park in Naples from Sept. 19 – 27, 2015.             This weeklong event showcases the Pro Watercross Tour and combines the electricity and appeal of traditional beach events with the high speed thrills of competitive motorsports says Rob Wells, Collier County Senior Sports Marketing Manager.

“Dramatic staging, professional sound system, banners, flags, and pit tents set the stage for a truly large-scale event - this is like the NASCAR of Watercross,” Wells said.

The Tour features a contingent of up-and-coming men and women in the thrilling sport of personal watercraft racing known as “watercross.”

Similar to motocross on the water, closed course racing is handle bar-to-handle bar competition that pits rider and machine in a personal watercraft battlefield.  Reaching top speeds of more than 90 mph; closed course racing features a buoy-marked, ½- to ¾- mile track that is designed to keep the competition tight and fans close to the action.

These riders will utilize some of the most advanced equipment and technology and engage in a fierce battle of skill, technology and innovation on and off the water. Each race begins with one of the most gut-wrenching experiences in motorsports – the side-by-side gated start.  Similar to horse racing, a watercross racing start features 20 riders exploding off the line. Surviving the first-turn it just the beginning.  Speed, technique, and racing ability will all come into play over the next 20 minutes, as the riders begin to negotiate a series of left and right hand turns.

The Pro Watercorss World Championship will be televised on a yet to be determined network.

“It has been great working with all of our partners to make this event happen in Naples,” Wells said. “The Pro Watercross Tour has been an outstanding partner as well as the Collier County Parks and Recreation Department. We are all working hard to make this is a special week for the drivers, crews, families, and fans coming to Naples.”
